Freeman Clinics Limited is an experienced provider of delivering high quality primary care and walk in services to the residents of Newcastle and North Tyneside. We were developed in response to the Darzi initiative “Equitable Access to Primary Care Medical Services”. We began trading in 2009 and have developed over the years to the services we currently provide.

We have 3 primary care general practices in the North East. These are based in North Tyneside and Newcastle Upon Tyne areas.
Ponteland Road Health Centre - Newcastle
Battle Hill Health Centre - North Tyneside
Earsdon Park Medical Practice - North Tyneside
We have 2 NHS GP led Walk In Centres in the North East. These are for minor injuries and illnesses. They are both open 8am-8pm 365 days a year. These are based in North Tyneside and Newcastle Upon Tyne.
Plain film x-ray, diagnostic ultrasound and Echocardiogram services are now available 2 of our health centres.
We house a number of outreach services provided by Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals from 2 of our centres.
You can refer into our services in the below ways.
The Walk In service is a self referral service. Patients are asked to present to the centres during opening hours, and they will be triaged and appropriate treatment commenced. (please refer to our services, for what we can see)
We do not offer booked appointments for this service, and patients are asked to book in at reception at wait. They will be triaged by a Nurse Practitioner to access priority, and will then be seen in turn based on the triage.
The X-ray service is an drop in service. Complete a request form as usual, and ask the patient to attend the service between the X-ray operating hours. No appointment is necessary
The X-ray services at each Health Centre are:
Ponteland Road Health Centre: Monday to Friday: 9am to 1pm and Saturday 9am to 12pm
Battle Hill Health Centre: Monday to Friday 2pm to 6pm and Saturday 1pm to 4pm
*The service may close earlier than stated if demand is high*
Bank Holidays and Sundays are excluded.
The Ultrasound service runs on booked appointments. Please complete a request form, and fax this to the relevant health centre. Battle Hill: 0191 2958522 Ponteland Road 0191 271 9059. An appointment will be booked for your patient, and your patient informed directly.
The Echo service runs on booked appointments. Please complete an open access echocardiogram form, and select which health centre you would like to refer to (bottom of the referral form). This should then be faxed to the Freeman Hospital Echo Department on 0191 2231633
The Care Quality Commission (CQC) are the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England.
The CQC make sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate, high-quality care and encourage them to improve.
They monitor, inspect and regulate services to make sure they meet fundamental standards of quality and safety and publish what is found, including performance ratings to help people choose care.

Our 3 health centres are contracted to practice via an APMS contract managed by the Local Area Team. Part of the APMS contract requires us to submit quarterly reports on the centres looking at the Primcary Care element and Walk In element. We are ask to report of 5 areas, Access, Quality, Service Delivery, Value for Money and Patient Experience. We also have to submit details of any significant incidents and patient feedback.

On 31 May 2013, following reports of walk-in centre closures, Monitor decided to review the provision of walk-in centre services in England.
They asked for response from commissioners, patient groups and walk-in centres. Freeman Clinics Limited answer this call, and submitted the attached response.
