How to Refer

You can refer into our services in the below ways.

Walk In Service

The Walk In service is a self referral service.  Patients are asked to present to the centres during opening hours, and they will be triaged and appropriate treatment commenced. (please refer to our services, for what we can see)

We do not offer booked appointments for this service, and patients are asked to book in at reception at wait.  They will be triaged by a Nurse Practitioner to access priority, and will then be seen in turn based on the triage.


The X-ray service is an drop in service.  Complete a request form as usual, and ask the patient to attend the service between the X-ray operating hours.  No appointment is necessary

The X-ray services at each Health Centre are:

Ponteland Road Health Centre: Monday to Friday: 9am to 1pm and Saturday 9am to 12pm

Battle Hill Health Centre: Monday to Friday 2pm to 6pm and Saturday 1pm to 4pm

*The service may close earlier than stated if demand is high*

Bank Holidays and Sundays are excluded. 


The Ultrasound service runs on booked appointments.  Please complete a request form, and fax this to the relevant health centre.  Battle Hill: 0191 2958522 Ponteland Road 0191 271 9059.  An appointment will be booked for your patient, and your patient informed directly.


The Echo service runs on booked appointments.  Please complete an open access echocardiogram form, and select which health centre you would like to refer to (bottom of the referral form).  This should then be faxed to the Freeman Hospital Echo Department on 0191 2231633
